" you have 15" to design a structure to protect an egg from a 5 m drop fall ! "
Material : Plastic straws 12 / adhesive tape 1 meter".
winning criteria : unbroken egg / less material used
Fun & Real games to simulate real work conditions
Solving problem, finding solutions with limited resources, in a specific time, are conditions similar to project development. we work with teams to get the most efficient / effective design solutions.
10 hands for 1 egg!
This video is the perfect illustration for the of "OMG" team work and the involvement of every team member to contribute to the construction of the egg's protection
(Pretend to) Be confident !
Sometimes you know the result is maybe unlikely to survive the test. your Job is still to be confident and / or to acknowledge the weak sports. helpful skills to work with project stakeholders, customers, design lead. if you don't look confident, no one will be for you !
All the Ingredients for positive output !
Excitement, Fun, Positive spirit, Team work and good communication will always lead to a positive result. Even in a few minutes, the egg explodes, teams already succeeded the challenge to communicate, have passion, work together and present on time what is for them their best possible solution.
Let's drop it ! The moment of (TESTING) truth ...
after building prototypes, teams test their solution ! climbing the ladder, discovering nice spider webs, Excitement, Anxiety, ... and here we go. (Truth, Both team's egged cracked, but "OMG" team only fractured slightly / "Always 18", completely exploded. here is not the point.)
Debriefing : Discovery and learning time.
Teams gather up to discuss & review what happened and provide ideas of improvement for next time ... Now that both eggs are broken, here is the time to debrief.
Ryan helps to present their design process & solutions for improvements.
Try & Error for projects but also for designers
Try & Error is part of the design process, Each project needs to prototype solutions, test and evaluate them, and improve current design before testing again.
this is ITERATIVE DESIGN PROCESS !
Try & error, Learning is also applicable to designer's development, and we should all create an environment encouraging innovative ideas, try & error, safe to fail, safe to learn!
