Wanting to breakout our product design in the market, So we need to explore product user experience and scenario, And also compare our competitors product to find out how

mounting solution and release mechanism we could do or improve to be better than them.

Building 3D sample is the only way to make progress

During the 3d modeling stage, When I almost finish the basic form model of tablet I printed out 3d samples to verify my design proposal. With the 3d samples in hand I was able to check the tablet real volume and dimensions and get a better understanding of the handheld experience.

Review to improve detail feature

After 3D model stage, During EVT stage (Engineering Validation Test) , we found the original I/O feature might not be comfortable to users. To improve SD card cover door, i modified the edge to be more rounded and made the I/O cap bigger, giving user good handing and ease to open/close.

CMF & Differentiation, How to differentiate skus.

We developed different CMF effects for different product specifications. In some cases a touch of paint really help customers or end users to quickly understand the product features differentiation. In most of user, metallic feel will induce and richer product features.Adding metallic feel spray paint, will easily support product positioning.

Magnetic is benefit for usability

After verification, we find out magnetic attraction performance is beyond our expectation. it is easily and precisely to get tablet on the cradle. and hard to detach from cradle without press the release key. To ensure it would have high reliability and durability in a driving vehicle.

Protection cap design

The protection caps have been a big deal and big challenge to me. They are accessories, but their function is very important for the product reliability and durability. Protection caps are also part of the design language of the product so that the product wearing it’s protection armor keeps it’s integrated identity. With a limited budget, advanced manufacturing process was not an option. I co-worked with our Mechanical engineer to find a reliable solution to combine plastic and rubber together.

Hand strap design

A simple and cost effective design solution for hand strap. Easy to install and adjustable to fit all sorts of hand size.The working samples helped to verify hand feeling and strap material comfort perception.
