This year, Martin and I attended the Hong Kong Design Inspiration Expo 2019.
Despite the turbulent political situation and a tiring business trip schedule, this trip has been a good experience ! let me tell you more about it !
As any great adventure, it starts very early ! way too early ! We are rewarded during the flight by a stunning sunrise ! (okay our picture was not so nice, so i just let you enjoy the photography skills of another webizen!).
HK DesignInspire Exhibition (創意設計博覽會)
An exhibition that combines technology, design, art, architecture, fashion, and traditional culture, It is not just focused on product design, but multiple diverse exhibitions.
We discovered many interesting things.
During the robot's performance, everyone was in high spirits, What an humorous, fun, and delicate and amazing show!!! I watched it again and again and followed him around the exhibition. The robot show is the most interesting thing I see in the exhibition.
Titan Robot Show: The delicate movements not only witness the advancement of technology, but also represent the designer's observance of anthropomorphic movements and details.
In the survey before the business trip, I saw the 1: 1 dinosaur robot show news last year and I was already looking forward to this year's exhibition.

At the show time, everyone was in high spirits, What a humorous, fun , delicate and amazing show!!! I watched it again and again and followed him around the exhibition. The robot show is the most interesting thing I see in the exhibition.
Haptic Displays : a new and interesting usability study
In the exhibition, I was pleasantly surprised to find a project of cooperation between school and company. They passed the touch of silicone through the imagination and connection of daily objects, and integrated the hard-to-promote silicone touch for the company, making it easier for people to understand.
I can understand and remember the characteristics and differences of the product more clearly and quickly through imagination and touch. Great user experience !

Great source of inspiration despite little industrial design products
Not many industrial design products in this exhibition, but we can still find some inspirations and design details that are helpful for work.
Integrated pattern can enhance design detail and more valuable.
More usability key design details : Rib and groove design have great button feeling, foolproof design for different functions, the icon of operation instructions is smarter, etc.
* Art and music：Material is one of the medium for creative and designer messages
Enchanting art installation and product are made with resin, cement, etc. , and making instruments, mock-up, art from different materials, we can witness the properties of different materials to create different possibilities and build ability .
Finding inspiration for design team
When I reviewed the exhibition photos, it reminded me of our department's most recent PDD workshop: Back to the design roots, and suddenly an idea came to my mind: next time we can try to make some instruments or can decorate and highlight the department's creations, maybe a large ID signboard painted and made by everyone. Sometimes you only have a draft idea, and just need to follow your instinct.

Relaxing in HK, indifferent to the buzzing city.
Hong Kong is a very small and urbanized city.Makes me fee a bit feels indifferent. Crowded and complicated streets and traffic compared the beautiful night scenes and quiet streets when we hang out at night in Victoria Harbor.The evening is a moment of relaxation to reflect quietly.
Being away from the office and projects is very enjoyable !
Because this is not my first time in Hong Kong, this trip highlight fits in 3 words : Rice Balls, Exhibition and Victoria Harbor . Being able to escape office environment & projects is very enjoyable for designers. We can relax a bit and let the steam off !
Developing the ability to observe and discover is important for designers.
Through this business trip, I can leave the stressful working environment, look at interesting products and creations, properly relax, learn and contact new things, and discover many interesting things, increase ideas, and improve aesthetics. What a great experience !
Sharing dining table with strangers is not for everyone !
HK’s food is heavy taste, some are delicious and some just ok. The food is nothing special, but because Hong Kong is too narrow, we were impressed that sometimes we have to share tables with strangers and eat together, which is a little bit weird to my partner.

Ghostbusters in Town !
There was a small problem with this trip. We booked a design hotel and it was named "Best Design Hotel in Hong Kong" according to CNN. The Hotel decoration and design are similar the "Budapest Hotel" movie. I think it’s special and beautiful, but it has weird room layouts for Taiwanese and oriental Feng Shui, dim lights in night, heard rumors of ghosts on the internet from colleagues. Finally we asked the hotel to change room and brought our colleague Ray's magic weapon to solve the problem and keep good sleep. Whether the ghosts were away playing with other room guests or we were protected by ray's special medal, we had a good sleep and were ready for the second day.
it's only two days, but i have gained a lot of experience.
Maybe next time I can participate in the international awards exhibition of Milan Designer Week or IF, so i can discover something different than our living and working environment. So what's next ?
