Tug at the heart(strings)

As we look into emotional design this first half of the year, I recently went to check out Shiota Chiharu’s art exhibition at Taipei Fine Arts Museum titled “The Soul Trembles”. She is a Japanese installation and performance artist, who lives and works in Berlin, best known for her extensive use of large-scale thread installations strung across entire spaces.

The strings in her works make me think about inter-connectivity between object and space or boundaries also, what those strings mean themselves. As we expand out further, how not only an object or design elicit an emotional response but also how that response changes when placing that object in a specific setting or environment. Similarly as we explore inward, how a design detail and its existence in a particular part of a design effects the overall feeling of a product.

More about Shiota can be found here: https://www.chiharu-shiota.com/

Main entrance into the exhibit.

Design ideas in its exploratory stages, trying to make sense of what is at ‘hand’.

Sometimes it is important to remove yourself and look at the bigger picture, constantly realigning to project goals.

Stringing thoughts along, into one cohesive piece.

Designing on a shoestring, with impact.

Setting and working within boundaries.

It’s the little things that count.

Where is this journey headed?
