a few months ago we started in ID team to prepare videos to welcome our new designers.
a New video is made for each new recruit. Each designer is adressing a message to the upcoming recruit. 1 week before the onboard day, the video is sent by email and looped in all designers and the new member.
The idea behind is to make fresh recruits less nervous and also to create a bridge with our designers. this little effort get the the designers to get ready for Martin, get to know his name, ask questions about his background etc ...
We are now at our 3rd video. Each video we've been improving the content and the form of it.
By the way, yes we hired 3 designers this year, and we are still growing, so you can expect new video in coming months.
We discovered many interesting things.
1. our designers are not used to do this type of things. not everyone is comfortable being on video, and we need to respect all individuals.
2. Open the door to cross functions is a good Idea, for instance, User experience, HR, mechanical engineers ... but if we do, we need to control the ouput ... so that they stay in the spirit of the video and dont scare people away ....
3. last but not least ... new recruits feel happy to receive this video, but according to some there is a gap between the video and the reality ... so where is the gap do you think.
Are we more serious than what it looks on the video ? or Are we more easy going ? well come join us, you will know !
the last member onboard will be responsible for producing the next video !
